Starting a programme of study can be exciting, and daunting too. But for Julia and Maria Raaymakers, and Hannah and Holly Evans, the first-day fears were eased by a special blend of sisterhood.

Not everyone leaves school knowing what they want to do. Faith Chadfield found her passion – and her NCEA Level 2 - through the free Whānau Positive Futures programme. Now she has an exciting future ahead with a goal and a plan.

After a long break from education, Rachel joined the free 13-week Healthcare programme at Training For You. Now the determined mother of five is on a steady ascent through tertiary education with a degree qualification in her sights.

Learning through the free on-campus literacy and numeracy programme, Adrian and Roslyn Baker have gained skills that they can utilise in all aspects of their lives. They love the supportive environment in the Tangata Toa classroom.

At aged 50, Thelma was a solo Mum of eleven, struggling with low-self-esteem, limited confidence and a tight budget when she realised that education was the key to change. Through the Business Administration and Computing programme she completed a Level 3 Certificate – a huge success for someone who had left secondary school 35 years earlier with no qualifications.
