Working with Children

Love working with children and want to gain practical skills and experience?

This is the starting point to build your knowledge and experience in all or any of the following:

  • Early Childhood Education
  • Nannying
  • Teacher Aiding
  • After School Care / OSCAR

What will the course do for you?

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop greater confidence
  • Build on your potential
  • Identify tertiary study or employment possibilities
  • Sharpen your literacy and numeracy skills

We recognise that you may have young children yourself, so we offer a free playgroup for your children three mornings a week while you are on campus.

What’s the course about?

You will work with children in a variety of settings and gain NZQA approved unit standards or modules which can lead to further training or employment.

You will develop skills in areas of:

  • Communicating with Children
  • Guiding Children’s Behaviour
  • Interactions in Play and Learning
  • Developing Working Relationships

What are my Study Options?

26 week and 40 week courses are available Wanganui, depending on your eligibility.

Still at School?

Early Childhood Education unit standards are available to senior secondary school students through STAR/Gateway funding. Please ask your STAR or Gateway co-ordinator, dean or careers advisor to contact us for more information about this option.

Working with Children is FREE if you are registered with WINZ, check with your case manager to see if you are eligible.
