Are you 16 or 17, without a clear idea of what you want to do? School not for you, but you still want to learn?
JumpStart gives you the chance to try lots of different things - from carpentry to canoeing, horse riding to hairdressing – and you’ll get a certificate at the end!
You will work in small groups, with like minded people and supportive tutors who care. You will learn important employment skills to focus on future jobs. In addition you will experience short course options with other providers to get a taste of other job opportunities. And weekly work experience will give you the chance to apply your learning to real-life situations.

Over the year you will have tried lots of different things and will have a clearer idea of where to go next. You might start an exciting new course or a great new job. It’s up to you.
The unit standards that make up this course include valuable personal, communication, study and employment skills. In addition you will participate in fun outdoor activities and work experience that will give you tasters of various kinds of training and job opportunities.
This year long course is divided into four terms. The classes are held at the Training For You campus in Ingestre Street, Wanganui, Monday to Friday, from 9:00am to 3:00pm.
To enrol on this course, you will be 16 or 17 (and not turning 18 within three months of starting), you will have completed Year 11 and have NCEA Level 1 or less.
